What to see and do around Whale Cottage

General Site Seeing

The whole area around Whitehills is awash with interesting places to visit and things to do. Banff Museum , Duff House, Banff swimming pool and Fraserburgh Lighthouse Museum are just some of the local attractions you might like to add to your list of things to do.

Golf

For the avid golfer there are many high quality local golf courses and Links courses for you to try. You might like to try Cruden Bay , Culeen Golf Club, Elgin Golf Course, Inverallochy Golf Course or Inverurie Golf Course whilst staying at Whale Cottage.

Wildlife

If you would like to see some of the varied wildlife this area of Scotland has to offer you will not be disappointed.  Dolphin, seal and bird watching cruises can be taken from the local harbours. Information and times can be found at www.puffincruises.com and www.north58.co.uk.

The RSPB nature reserve at Troup Head has the only mainland gannet colony in Scotland and in the summer plays host to over 150,000 seabirds including  fulmars, kittiwakes and guillemots, you may even see puffins too.

Macduff Marine Aquarium has been awarded the Association of Scottish Visitor Attraction Award 2008 and is well worth a visit.

Huntly Falconry Centre has regular demonstrations and also gives visitors the opportunity to have 'experience days' for that more hands on approach!

Fishing

The Castle Trail

As everyone knows, Scotland has an abundance of beautiful historic castles and family homes. The Scottish National Trust has taken care of many of these homes during its time but you also might like to visit, Auchindoun Castle near Dufftown, Brodie Castle near Forres, Duffus Castle near Elgin, Balvenuie Castle near Dufftown, Fyvie Castle and of course Cawdor Castle near Inverness.

Banff - shops and restaurants

The historic coastal town of Banff , with its many finely restored 18th century buildings, is separated from the neighbouring village of Macduff by a pretty seven-arch bridge over the River Deveron.

Banff consists of a grand Georgian upper town and the older Scotstown by the harbour. William Adam's magnificent 1730 mansion, Duff House, operates as an outstation of the National Galleries of Scotland . The grounds of Duff House are extensive, offering pleasant parkland walks, while the Colleonard Sculpture Gardens are impressive.
